Scholastic Hiatus (noun) : To take a long break from the school-year for rest and relaxation, vacation/holiday, or to attend to other personal responsibilities/duties.
Fifty students from the State University had taken a scholastic hiatus for half a semester. They were so behind that they had to drop their courses completely, but were late in the process and thus recieved a "W" on their transcripts. (W=Withdraw)
