Partizan/partisan (noun) : A weapon consisting of a heavy cutting blade with lateral projections mounted on a long shaft, similar to a spetum or a ranseur. Partisans were used in the 16th and 17thcenturies and were commonly carried by sergeants. Websters could also add 'Spetum' and 'Ranseur' although the latter is a foreign word (French).
