barbarienne (noun) : A female sword-wielding warrior woman from the time of the barbarians —more or less— usually exciting and attractive fighters. Examples: Red Sonja, "Chicks with Swords" TV ad.
Richard Pini may have coined the word "barbarienne" around 1975. Wendy did a portfolio back then of 4 different warrior women that Warp Graphics published, and I called it "The Barbariennes."
