Elizabethan collar (noun) : a protective cone-shaped medical device worn by an animal around its head and attached at the neck like a collar; its purpose is to aid in the healing process by preventing the animal from biting or licking injuries, rashes, or irritations thus not allowing the animal to cause further irritation and harm to itself
